In a free market, people can trade things on a market without any significant government regulation. In fact the only regulation offered by the government deals with protecting people from fraud. All types of money can be handled in this market. Supply and demand is used as well, where people can buy financial assets and the values of them will increase as supplies of those assets goes down.
