J.P. Morgan was a banker, financier, and art collector born in Connecticut in 1837. He managed the merger of Edison General Electric and Thomson-Houston into General Electric, and several companies into the United States Steel Corporation.
His name was John Pierpont Morgan. He died in 1913 leaving his business to his son John Pierpont Jack Morgan Jr.
In 1871 J.P. Morgan & Co. was founded as a Commercial and Investment bank. The company was known as House of Morgan, which was acquired by Chase Manhattan Bank in 2000.
